I bought these boots in August 2018 after my previous pair finally gave up the ghost after 5 years of daily use. They have now split and broken after only 16 months! Very disappointed and fear that when Berghaus bought Brasher they may have lowered standards and the products are not up to scratch! I am trying to return to Amazon with no luck yet. Very disappointed! So, bought these Aug 2015 for regular dog walking - nothing too agressive; a bit of road, muddy paths and open fields. The heel is now coming away from the boot. Is this a good deal, bearing in mind the cost of these boots? I know other walkers who have had their traditional style walking boots last up to 10 years. Is it that the stuff we buy is just crap? Is it that the manufacturers can't afford to make stuff last a long time? Whatever, I won't be buying Berghaus again.Ever since Brasher Supalites came onto the market decades ago, I wore nothing else. They were brilliant, if short-lived. Comfortable from the first minute, waterproof and perfect for rough mountain terrain. Then they were bought out by Berghaus and disaster struck. They stopped making my favourite boot. I searched vainly for anything in the same league - in vain. Italian Goretex boots leaked from day one, others weighed like lead and the Berghaus alternative was like wearing clogs. Then I discovered that Berghaus had seen the light, no doubt due to dwindling customers for their flashy looking but uncomfortable replacement, and brought back MY boots - with Vibram soles as well! So I'm back smiling. It's too early to comment on their lifetime but I'm keeping my fingers crossed .......Photos enclosed compares original Brasher Supalite boots (right boot in photo = 2008 Brasher Supalite) and new Berghaus Supalite - the left boot in photos is the new 2020 Berghaus Supalite 11 GTx and this particular version clearly shows poor closure around the tongue of boot. There seems to be much less leather for the laces to pull sides closer together and it is a narrower fit across my foot too. Both boots are size 10.5 UK. Unfortunately I had to return these new boots as their fit was too narrow and as above, they would not "close" properly no matter how hard I tried with the laces. The old boot worn on my right foot shows good closure around its tongue with its laces. The new boots unfortunately seem to be a narrower fit overall compared to my old comfortable original Brasher boots and the new pair were thus uncomfortably tighter and felt too narrow while I tried them before their return.Firstly, the leather - it is very soft - I just hope it is tough enough for hill walkingI have fairly narrow feet and with walking socks, these boots (out of the box) are snug. I expect them to relax a bit with wear.I ordered the 9 (43) as per my usual shoe size - I then ordered a 9.5 (44) because I wasn't sure about the snugness of the 9/43. In the end I sent back the 9/43 and settled for the next size up from my usual shoe. I've done 10 miles in them today and for new boots they were surprisingly comfortable. It rained hard for about 10mins - no ingress of water so far. They are slightly higher necked than I am used to - but the softness of the leather meant they didn't chafe. There is memory foam in the lining so the boot moulds well to the foot.I was not looking forward to getting new boots - after a few short walks and a longer one today - I am more relaxed. Will they last ten years??One year on, all U can say is these were a great buy..never let in one drop of water(Dec '21)
