We hike every day and, in the southwest mountains, it gets really hot and there are often red ants on trails.Unlike the other dogs in our pack, she wears these and has never been bitten. She is able to freely move and maintains traction on various terrain. They are really easy to use, getting on and off. We haven't tested the waterproof function, but these feel very durable and despite running in circles, playing, and hiking the grip is still new, months later. The only thing I would change is to make them more breathable--it gets hot during the summer and her paws are very sweaty after using. Dust from trails gets inside, so I would question the waterproof ability.Make sure they are on flat and tight. They haven't fallen off except during our first use.Tip to help them get used to the shoes: immediately after putting them on start playing with their favorite toy. We put the toy away for a few days and pulled it out once the shoes were on. She instantly forgot about the shoes and started running and walking normally.Unlike Mukluks, these don't have a natural feel sole, so they feel weird to the dog. Playing helps them go over that before they form an opinion about them. She associates the shoes with fun times and adventures.
